Teach
For India (TFI), a non-profit organization founded by Shaheen Mistri in 2009
and a proud member of the global Teach for All network, is working relentlessly
to alter this narrative. Built on the vision that "one day
all children will attain an excellent education," TFI drives a
nationwide movement to address educational disparity at the grassroots level.
What
is the Teach for India Fellowship?
At
the core of Teach for India's mission is its flagship two-year
full-time Fellowship. The program recruits promising college graduates
and working professionals to teach in under-resourced government and low-fee
private schools across India.
Fellows
serve as full-time class or subject teachers in primary and secondary
classrooms (Grades 1 to 10), teaching subjects such as English, Mathematics,
Science, and Social Studies. Currently operating across major Indian
cities—including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Gurugram, Hyderabad,
Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune—the Fellowship places educators directly where they
are needed most.
Key
Components of the Fellowship:
Grassroots Impact: Fellows work
directly with children, parents, school leaders, and local communities to drive
academic success and holistic growth.
Leadership Development: Guided by the belief
that "teaching is leadership," TFI trains Fellows in critical
transferable skills such as strategic planning, data analysis, stakeholder
management, and problem-solving.
Comprehensive Support: Fellows receive
structured pre-service training (Summer Institute), ongoing mentorship, a
monthly stipend of INR 30,000, housing allowances, health insurance, and mental
health support.
